Ghana 2014

This Easter, 25 Cardiff Dental students including myself went off to Ghana to provide urgent dental care in a small community called Ekumfi Immuna. On arrival, the village had set up an amazing show for us featuring a lot of dancing! The atmosphere was incredible and the people were so welcoming.

We then went on door- to – door visits to find out how they live and really focused on the communities oral health habits. Turns out, most use sticks to brush their teeth and brush them very rarely.

The most important station in our dental set-up was education. We taught children of the community how to brush their teeth effectively using a cute lion model and Dental Wellness Trust toothbrushes. I cannot even describe in words how excited and grateful the children were to receive these colourful toothbrushes!

A massive thank you to Dental Wellness Trust for donating a huge supply of toothbrushes and helping make this year’s Cardiff Dental Brigade a massive success!
