South Africa 2012 (August)

On 17th August, Dr Linda Greenwall went back to Khayelitsha to hand out toothbrushes and present an oral health workshop. Khayelitsha is one of the largest Townships in Cape Town.

Access to proper dental treatment in townships such as Khayelitsha is limited. As a result, the oral health status is low. Many are lacking in knowledge of basic oral hygiene and have a very limited awareness of how to avoid and/or reduce tooth decay. Therefore, many children and adults suffer from severe tooth decay and/or toothache. As a consequence there is a strong need for education about oral health for preventive measures as well as dental treatments.
